課程概述

Course Description:
Before the 20th century, the transportation through ocean had been acted as the most important way for connection among large part of each Asian area and other continents. Originally the sea route cannot be controlled by any powers of the land. Therefore, we may easily feel that in anywhere the water of sea connect with each other. By this basic natural condition, if look the wide maritime history, we can understand a global cultural exchange in Asia with leaving from border of nations or ethnic areas. For this purpose, we should see material evidences for Asian maritime history due to limitation of documentary records before the coming of European powers. In this context, ceramic trade history, reconstructed by ceramic shards findings in archaeological sites, is very important useful study field as material evidences.
To approach to the target, understanding of Asian maritime history, in this course I will teach the outline of Asian ceramic trade history by 3 steps; basic knowledge of trade ceramic except Chinese wares, total chronological change in each period, and special topics.
